Have you been chosen to be the maid of honor of you friend’s or sister’s wedding? Congratulations! You play a special role in the bride’s life. Here is a list of some responsibilities of a maid of honor (or matron of honor if you are married):
1. Helping the bride with organizing and planning the wedding
This can include everything from picking the wedding colors, helping with sending out the invitations and assisting the bride with every pre-wedding task the she needs help with.
2. Head of the bridesmaids
The maid of honor is in charge of keeping everything run smoothly with the other bridesmaids. That includes keeping everyone informed of the timeline before and on the day of the wedding as well as making sure the bridesmaids have their dresses and accessories.
3. Host a bridal shower or bachelorette party
Host an event in honor of the bride but of course you can ask the other bridesmaids for help. Also make sure to attend all of the events before the wedding.
4. Help the bride get ready on her big day
On the day of the wedding help the bride in her dress and shoes and make sure she is comfortable. After the bride walks down the aisle arrange her train and veil. If necessary hold her bucket or handkerchief during the ceremony.
5. Give a toast
Give a speech in honor of the newlywed couple. Keep the speech appropriate, personal and not too long.
6. Make sure the bride is happy
Most importantly keep the bride happy. Carry some essentials with you like tissues, hair pins and mints. Also make sure the bride takes a moment to eat, drink something and enjoy the moment.
